Required documents for the marriage certificate have been listed below

Under Hindu Marriage Act

  • A completely filled application form signed by both husband and wife.
  • Address proof (voter I-card/ration card).
  • Separate affidavits from both spouses in formats that have been prescribed.
  • Proof of birth dates of both spouses. (Matriculation certificate/ birth certificate).
  • 2 passport size photos of each spouse and one photograph of marriage.
  • If available a wedding invitation card.
  • Copy of original divorce order/ decree for a divorcee and death certificate in case of demise of spouse for widower/widow.
  • If one partner practices a religion other than Buddhist, Hindu, Jain and Sikh then the priest that solemnized the wedding has to provide a conversion certificate.
  • If a foreign national is the applicant, an original certificate of No Objection from related High Commission should also be submitted.
  • If the wedding was solemnized in some religious place by a priest a certificate that says he solemnized the wedding also has to be submitted.
  • Gazettes Officer’s witness who should also bring his Official Identity card and Official seal.
  • Important: all these documents should be attested by the Gazettes Officer.   

Under Special Marriage Act

  • Attested form signed and filled by bride and groom.
  • A Rs. 15/- fee should be deposited with District cashier and form and receipt should be attached together.
  • Date of birth’s evidence of both spouses (birth certificate/passport Matriculation certificate).
  • Evidence regarding a spouse’s more than 30 days stay in Delhi (SHO’s report or ration card).
  • Bride and groom should give separate affidavits for:
  • Birth date.
  • Current marital status: divorcee/unmarried/ widower.
  • Affirmation needs to be given that both partners are not related to one another as per the definition of prohibited relationship of the Special Marriage Act.
  • 2 passport size photos of each partner that have been attested by a Gazettes Officer.
  • Copy of original divorce order/ decree for a divorcee and death certificate in case of demise of spouse for widower/widow.
